We were the Brown family that grew up on Mr Bramley's Farm, Grove House Farm, off Long Lane, East Harlsey. My mother cleaned at the Cat & Bagpipes. We sometimes went with her in the school holidays. We went to Brompton school and used to catch the bus from Long Lane Ends, then on a night we got dropped at Welbury village near the station house and walked home past Barkers and Boyes Farms. My father, Steve Storey, was the postman for East and West Harlsey in the 1960's and 70's. I used to walk up to the village with him in the late 60's to do the afternoon postal round in East Harlsey. I remember the post office and shop run by the Topham's, they would get anything you wanted and indeed, many of my Christmas presents came from there, my dad telling them what was needed and they duly got ...see more
My earliest memories are of East Harlsey where my father was an undergardener at the Hall. The owners were the Constantine family, whose business was something to do with shipping in the North East. We lived in a tied cottage one of four near the Hall and Church. I was born in East Harlsey in 1958 and spent 19 years living there. The photo on this site I believe is my mum, Mrs Lorna Whittaker, stood outside our family home next to the Methodist Chapel. I loved going to the village school, the teacher then was Miss Sewell who lived in the end cottage down from my own home. We would play in the street on our bikes or over the fields as it was very safe in those days. I also ...see more
