This is a fine example of an old farming village - in 1974 it was declared a conservation area. No restrictions existed in 1775 when the manor was demolished; much of the stone was used to build Old Hall Farm. The two 19th-century pubs remain open: the Old Star, once a farmhouse, and the Duke of Wellington (right of the white lodge). Brooklands, the imposing houses to the right, were built in 1900 to cater for the many Leeds commuters using nearby Bardsey station (open from 1876 to 1964).
