Occasionally as the budget allowed (remember I also earned a ‘tanner’ a week at the Children’s home at lime Cottage under the leadership of my Matron, Dear Aunty Betty) I’d buy a carton of cubed sugar to share with the horses. I’d learned too like sugar cubes as that is how Doctor Rose, MD (Church Street) dispensed the polio vaccine to we little ones from the homes
