A Memory of Eastry.

THis was the village newsagent. We lived to the right as you look at the photo, and traded as Premier Garage.

That is my father's car. The shop was my grandfather's and was previously my great grandfather's and before that, my great-great grandfather's. I did not expect to see my dad's car. I was 2 years old in 1955. Graham Woodruff.
As a Child from the Cottage homes previously referred, I’d spend my Monthly 1/2 crown or two and sixpence buying the Dandy & Beano comics, a bag of Chocolate eclairs and a sherbet fountain- with real hollowed liquorice straw - which naturally had to be shared with the other boys

Occasionally as the budget allowed (remember I also earned a ‘tanner’ a week at the Children’s home at lime Cottage under the leadership of my Matron, Dear Aunty Betty) I’d buy a carton of cubed sugar to share with the horses. I’d learned too like sugar cubes as that is how Doctor Rose, MD (Church Street) dispensed the polio vaccine to we little ones from the homes

He was always kind.. I remember the kind ones
