More about this scene
This inn is named after the Earl of Warwick, Richard Nevill. He was known as the Kingmaker and lived in Eridge Castle, the ancestral seat of the Marquis of Abergavenny. The lands of Eridge have been in the hands of the Nevill family in a direct male line from 1450. The scene is much the same today, with business continuing beside the busy main road.
