More about this scene
Having held the manor since 1606, the Cliftons were instrumental in its development as a select residential and resort town during the 19th century. Their control over its planning ensured wide streets and an air of comfortable spaciousness. Trams ran along the centre of the main road, and in the background stands the distinctive white Congregationalist church, built in 1912.
