More about this scene
A rucksack-clad rambler (left) admires Abbot Huby's magnificent north tower at Fountains Abbey, in the valley of the River Skell near Ripon. Although slighted during the Reformation, Fountains Abbey is a Yorkshire landmark virtually unchanged since the 12th century when it was built. The former Cistercian monastery still dominates the grounds of Studley Royal, and is now served by an award-winning National Trust visitor centre on the hillside above.
