My Grandfather Lived At Ivy Cottage

A Memory of Godalming.

My Grandfather, Hubert Blackwell, lived in Ivy Cottage with his mother and father, Mr Henry Alfted Blackwell, he was born in 1897. I have just looked up his First World War war records and he states his address as Ivy Cottage, Peperharrow Road. I knew he lived in Godalming, but that was it. It is lovely to see a picture of the road as he would have certainly seen it as it is shown in 1907. Did anyone know him?

Hello Clare, I'm also a relative of Hubert Blackwell, His Sister Ivy (hence Ivy Cottage) was my Grandmother. She was also born in that house and grew up to marry Harrold Wilshire. They both emigrated to Australia in 1953 with their two children, Ian and Jean. I am Jean's Son. Jean passed away in 1996. I have a lot more info about the family if you wish to contact me. Hubert had a brother, David William Blackwell whom was killed a Ypres (Flanders Fields) in WWI. They had a sister Edith Ada Blackwell (married Preston) and I think there was a Molly Blackwell as well. Hope to talk soon. Kind regards, Mark m.tylinski@bigpond.com
