More about this scene
On the left we have Smith's umbrella shop, which had just diversified into wedding and birthday presents. The Piece Hall, completed in 1779, was where wool merchants traded and weavers sold their pieces. This superb building still stands. It has 315 rooms on three stories around a quadrangle.
