My earliest memory of Harefield is sitting in a pushchair aged about two or three in Mount Pleasant with my mother pointing to an airship, either R100 or R101, flying majestically eastwards, probably to its base at Cardington. A memory that will always be with me in view of the tragic fate of R101. Harold Kyle.

When I was about nine I spent a year in Harefield Hospital. When I arrived I was put into isolation for two weeks. The treatment included a penicillin injection twice a day. After isolation I was moved into a double room, and then allowed out of bed for two hours a day. This progressed until I was allowed out of bed most of the time. My father used to be the Officer in Charge here when it was an old people's home - we used to live in the cottage just before the dovecote. When we lived there Kath and Ian used to live in the Upper Lodge which was directly on the entrance to the road to Breakspear House. I have very few 'photos of Breakspear House as I lived here from the ages of 7 to 13. I have very happy memories of my time there.
