This view and 27204, pages 72-73 are well away from the town; the banks are consequently more thinly populated and the boats, punts and skiffs far fewer than one might expect. At the right in both views is Temple Island, the start of the course, with its gar- den temple by James Wyatt, erected in 1771 as a fishing lodge for Sambrook Freeman of Fawley Court. It and the island are now owned by the Henley Royal Regatta, and the temple has recently been well restored.

Frewins Cottages And Frewins Row
Looking on the Henley Census Info site, I found a reference to Frewins Cottages and Frewins Row. Frewin is my mother's maiden name and the family seem to have been in Henley for over 200 years. Being an unusual surname, they have been easy to track down but does anyone know where Frewins Cottages and Frewins Row were? Peter Francis

Henley Family Memories
My father's mother came from Henley with strong family roots in Highmoor Cross, Shiplake and Rotherfield Grey's. My great grandparents lived at 2 Queen Street and had a huge family of 10 or 11 children in what seems today a very small house. At regatta time we always visited by train from West Drayton and had to change at Twyford. My great grandmothers brothers and sisters all lived around the town ...see more

Arlett's Boatyard
My late grandmother came from Henley-on-Thames, and was Eleanor Flossie Arlett. I wish I knew more about her family. I do know that the Arletts had a boatyard and stored punts, I believe for hire, under the Angel on the Bridge pub. Also her father was a Queen's Waterman with a red uniform and cap. The Convent School
We lived at the Lodge at the bottom of the drive and I was allowed to start school at the age of 4 because the Sisters had known me from birth. We had the whole of the grounds to play in so it was very exciting growing up there. Great memories were of when the tractor came to cut the grass and we had the bales to play on. Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
