Fond Memories

A Memory of Heswall.

I was a patient at Heswall from January 1973 to July 1973. I was on the Florence Gibson Ward. What a fantastic place it was. I enjoyed every minute of it. I remember most of the staff. Sister Broughall, Staff Nurse Pat Robinson, Staff Nurse Mary Smith, SEN Margaret Deer, Nurses Nel Evans, Audrey Morgan. Elsie Taylor,Nuse Parr and not forgetting my all time favourite Staff Nurse Eva Seddon. I also recall the night staff. Nurse Martyn, Barbara Hall, Nurse Humphreys, Sister Stewart. The matron was Miss Simpson and Mrs Overend and Mr Begbie were the deputies. Our school teacher were Mrs Sharmon,Miss Barlow, Mrs Shacley, Mr Grundy. Mrs Carr who became Mrs Denton and the head Mr Hamer. Fellow patients I recall are Alun Morrison, Nick Houslay, Mark Earle, Stephen Balshaw, Michael Moore, David Langley, Billy Ryan, Mark Harrison, Bernard Gleniki, Matthew Taylor and Tony Flynn. I also recall the cleaners. Mrs Gaye, Mrs Woodward, Mrs Reid, Lou Hignett and Nora Smith. I am sure that I have missed some people out. It was a wonderful hospital, a fantastic building, great views over to Wales. The staff were first class, the food was good and the days out to Wales were memorable. I would love to hear from anyone who was there at my time or who may remember me.

Can remember the leaving song we used to sing, "one more day to go, one more day of sorrow , no more nurses smacking our bums , no more teachers giving us sums , because we'll be home tomorrow. Also playing the hide and seek game "sardines" in what seemed like the vast grounds. Good memories.
Yes the grounds were lovely and spacious. I recall the old steam engine next to the Tennis Court and the old Fire Tender on the paddock along with the two sailing boats.
