The postman carries an unsafe-looking load on his bicycle. Holt has been a market town since the time of Edward II; the town suffered a major fire in 1708. Sir John Gresham founded the grammar school here, still known as Gresham's School: old boys include Sir John Reith, founder of the BBC.
