Ilfracombe, From Capstone Hill 1911

More about this scene
Although Ilfracombe is essentially a Victorian town, the elegant terraced houses of Montpellier Place (upper, left of centre) were built in the early 1830s. Space for development was at a premium in the narrow and steep area between the cliffs and hills, and hotels and lodging houses of several storeys were the preferred solution.
