Kingsbury, Church Lane And St Andrew's Church c.1950

More about this scene
Except in this enclave, it is difficult to imagine that Kingsbury did not originate in the 1930s as part of the engulfing suburban sea. It is, however, the Chingesberie mentioned in Domesday, and the Kynges byrig in the Index to the Charters and Rolls of 1046. The Old Church, a small picturesque building of at least the 12th century, nestles in its tombstoned, grassy churchyard, a churchyard it shares with St Andrews Church. It is sad that respect for this venerable church is scant around Kingsbury, where it has suffered considerably from vandalism over the years. Both the grade one church and its churchyard are included in English Heritage's Register of Buildings at Risk in Greater London.
