Pagham 1050's

A Memory of Ledbury.

My most special and enjoyable times in my life were spent at Pagham in one of the hired beach houses on the pebble seafront in the early to mid fifties. I went there several times with my brother and my parents and remember swimming, throwing pebbles, 'social cycle rides, eating breakfast out on the porch of our house and at night listening to the sound of the Selsey bill lighthouse. I just remember a total feeling of security and happiness - something that I'm sad to say I have never felt since although life hasn't treated me at all badly.

I visited the place again in the mid seventies when i came to SE London to live and work but of course as with everything - the 'magic' had gone. It was all change with bungalows tight knit along the beach and some tacky caffs and plasticky amusment arcade - all flashing lights and noisy slot machines.
