More about this scene
Turning left out of Castle Hill, Bailgate follows the course of the Roman Ermine Street towards the old Roman north gate from the city, the Newport Arch. This was built in the 3rd century AD and is still partly standing, although it has had to be rebuilt several times when vehicles misjudged its height.
