More about this scene
At the far east end, behind the sanctuary, Henry VII's chapel was begun in 1503 as a rebuilding of the Lady Chapel to take Henry VI's body. In the event, Henry VII's own monument lies beneath the soaring, lacy pendant fan vaults of this most exciting and wondrously rich last flowering of the English Perpendicular style. Henry and his wife's effigies are Italian Renaissance in style (by Pietro Torrigiani), an extremely early example in England.
