More about this scene
Conceived and built by John Nash in 1813, this famous thoroughfare has been said to represent ‘the highest beauty of street architecture.’ The bold, sweeping curve of the Quadrant originally incorporated an open Doric arcade of 270 columns supporting a balustraded roof. However, the heavy cast shadows attracted ‘undesirable company’ and the arcade was eventually removed in 1848.
