In the background is the County Fire Office at the end of Regent Street. A similar replacement building was erected on the site in the 1920s. We can see hackney carriages at the end of the arcade at the junction with Glasshouse Street. In the foreground is the entrance to Shaftesbury Avenue, which then ran deeper into Piccadilly Circus.
