I and my family used to visit Moss Cottage with our mother, Mary McGuire, who born in caldercruix. Her father was Francis McGuire and Susan was his cousin. We had wonderful times at Moss Cottage with other McGuire cousins who lived in Bellshill. My mother's married name was Kearney. We lived in coatdyke where my sisters and I attended All Saints school and later St. Patrick's High. The other side of my mother's family were Gordon and Eadie who also came from Caldercruix
I now live in Canada and would love to know from anyone who can put the pieces together. It is a small world.
I also have fond memories of visiting Frank, Joe and Susan in the 1970s with my family. We travelled to Edinburgh each summer to spend time with my Grandfather Frank Mcguire (another one!) and my great aunts Mary Mcguire, Helen Mcguire, Jane Mcguire. We would travel over every year to visit Moss Cottage. (In our family we always called it the Moss House, rather than cottage; I don't know why).
To the best of my knowledge they were all cousins.
I remember walking down to the old house to see its remains. I also remember that Frank grew the most incredible vegetables and that Joe kept budgerigars.
