More about this scene

The arrival of the railway in 1877 put Mablethorpe on the seaside holiday map, and the town is mainly Victorian or later. The Book in Hand (left) is mentioned in the mid 1800s, but it was badly damaged by fire in 1981 and the two bays have gone. It was classed as a hotel and lodging house in 1856, and is now an indoor market. The Royal Café (extreme left) is now the Café Royale. The Café Regent in the far distance is no more - the whole building has gone in a seafront redevelopment. Note the many people walking towards the front: it looks as though they have just got off the train (there is no longer a station here) or are walking from the bus station (no longer there), which was to the left of the Royal Café. The brick façade on the right has also been demolished, and the snack bar is now the Mablethorpe Rock Co.

I am sure in around 1985 above the shops, there was a night club/bar called Zebedees, can anybody confirm?
As a small child, I visited Mabelthorpe with my grandparents ,we used to stay with my great aunty Edith Langton, who lived on Seaholme Road and she had a great many chickens and goats. The sun always seem to shine, as we always remember our childhood summers. Mabelthorpe has always stayed in my memory as a great place with a really nice beach ,we always had lovely days and slept well at night. As a teen in 1969, I went ...see more
My first holiday: I was 21 with 2 small girls and lived with my mum and dad, as my husband left me while I was expecting my second child. We went to Mablethorpe as my aunt said the sands were great for kids. We all had a great time, that was in 1972 and then we went every year till my dad passed away in 1995. We had so many good times, it was like going home. I try to get there at least once a year, if only for the day. My daughters are married now.
