Some of my most precious memories of life belong to Menith Wood. My parents bought a caravan where we had many happy times on the “Bird in Hand” public house caravan site, opposite the woods. I remember feeding “Thomas” the boar, the wonderful walks with my parents and dog around the woodland. I picked wild flowers and could identify each one. I was around six when we moved from Bliss Gate to Menith Wood and left Menith Wood when I just turned fourteen. When I was a child in the ‘50’s around 5 years old my aunt and uncle ran this pub together with a couple of pigs, goats, chickens, geese and a cherry orchard! It was such fun spending weeks of school summer holidays there together with my sister. How wonderful to hear of one of my dear friend's memories of 1960s Menith Wood.
