More about this scene
Mevagissey's expansive harbour is thronged with boats. Because of the town's pervading odour of fish it was known familiarly as 'Fishygissey'. In the 19th century travellers noted its 'dirt and pilchards' - fishing communities were infamous for the untidy clutter their activities generated.
