Pee Gardens

A Memory of Middleton.

I was very young to have seen the gardens in Middleton but they were well loved and a great place place to take a quiet moment watching the fountain. No one seems to know where the fountain is but rumour has it, it was dumped in the underground loos and then these were filled in. Many think it is still there underground. The toilets under the gardens have given the gardens the not so nice, but funny name of Pee Gardens. The traffic used to circumnavigate the gardens including the many buses. Opposite was the cinema which I think at one time was the swimming baths where they would put boards over the baths to make a dance floor. The whole area was cleared and flagged with hardly a bush in sight. Now, the gardens have flourished with trees and lawns planted with a dash of colour from some flowers and I think it looks quite lovely and an asset to the town.
