This very austere hotel is seen in the year it was opened, out on the cliff top just south of Poldhu Cove. It is on an extremely windswept location with not a tree or bush in sight, but no doubt the sea views and bracing air were deemed beneficial to guests.

My family used to stay at Elm Cottage on Trewoon Road in Mullion for many of our summer holidays during the 1970's. The cottage belonged to a Mrs Kent, known to us affectionately as Aunty Ellie, who at that time lived in Caerleon in Wales with her Son and daughter in law Ted and Jean. My parents, Dot and Reg Poynter, bought the Mounts Bay in about 1948 and turned it into a hotel where we lived as a family until 1960.
