We lived in the last house at the bottom of benson Lane, next to the fields, great memory's, attended normanton infants school and normanton Common, my brother Frank went to normanton grammar school. Remember living in the back to back terraces, the outside toilets at home and at the school. Playing in the fields next to our house, also playing in haw Hill Park, lots of times, my sister wendy falling in the pond one day ...see more
I lived on pontefract road at the top of goodhope row and moved to Mackinnon Avenue when compulsory purchase of the loscoe village was made for the build of the M62. The Creswells lived about half way down Mackinnon and i can remember a Gail Williams visiting them with her parents amd a younger sister who had extra an finger on each hand, I thought they emigrated to Malaysia.
I remember my Grand-dad taking me to the park in my push chair when I was about 3 years old. I used to sit and watch him play bowls with his friends. We might then go and feed the ducks in the pond before returning home.
I was only a toddler at the time but my Granddad, who I lived with, used to take me to the park when he was going to play bowls with his friends. I used to sit in my pram and take it all in. This was during the war years.
