More about this scene
An almost deserted Theatre Square, laid with granite setts. The Theatre Royal on the left was built in 1865 by William and John Lambert, and designed to dominate the view up Market Street. In 1969, when the theatre was in danger of closure, the Corporation stepped in and bought it, and it was then incorporated into the Royal Centre.
