Covering some eight acres, this is believed to be the largest chalk pit in Hampshire. In addition to providing lime, the chalk was used for marling the clay agricultural lands to the north and the sandy soils to the east. It is owned by the lord of the manor.

I owned 'Hillside Cottage' an an area known as Hillside just outside the town.
My parents lived in 'The Coachman's Cottage', which can be seen on the brow of the hill in King's Street, 1950-60. 'Lovelace' is almost opposite.
My Great, Great grandparents, John and Jane Crocker lived here in 1915 before they both died.
My grandfather, and his family came from Odiham. They lived at Bury Cottage until at least 1908. I am connected to the Peskett, Clark, Champion, Pink, Lee and Windiate families of Odiham.
