Osborne House was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1840, and it became something of a shrine to her beloved Prince Albert after his death. Victoria, Britain's longest serving monarch, died here on the evening of 22 January 1901 after a reign of 63 years, seven months and two days.

My great grandfather, Arthur Tuffin, was the Gate Keeper at the Lodge in 1911. He was married to Emily Tuffin (nee Banvil). My grandmother, May Alexandra, was born in the Lodge along with her siblings, Milborough & Margaret. Residing with them was my great great grandmother, Milborough Banvil.
