Two schooners are moored at the North Quay alongside John Hawken's coal store. In the background there is evidence of the railway that had arrived only two years before, with a line of trucks on the quay and carriages also visible. This was the furthest the London & South Western Railway ever got from Waterloo: 256 miles.
