More about this scene
In 1842 Port Erin was chosen as the location for a Marine Biological Station; it still exists, though these days it is a part of the University of Liverpool. One of the great pioneers in marine biology, Professor Edward Forbes, was born at Douglas in 1815. Before his untimely death in 1854 he was already the President of the Geological Society. The station can be seen here on the right on the far side of the bay.
