This view of the promenade looks south-east around the curving sweep of the bay. The popular 3 ft 6in gauge tramway ran for four miles along this dune-backed coast to Llanbedrog. 'Pwllheli possesses perhaps the finest sandy beach in Wales', says the late Victorian guidebook, 'and the sanitary arrangements are all that could be desired'.

my grandmothers family came from pwllheli before her family moved to liverpool. we know very little about her childhood there or the relatives they may have left behind.we were also told she worked at butlins when it opened,by then she would have been in her 50s.the family name is jones, father - I Allanson Jones born 1857 mother - Elizabeth born 1852 plus 5 siblings, i seem to be hitting brick walls trying to ...see more

Childhood Memories Of Pwllheli Holidays
My family used to go every Whit week to a guest house run by a Mrs Bradshaw at this end of the promenade, late 1950s - early 1960s. It was very special. Driving towards the seafront the road went steeply upwards until at last - a view of the sea, and that beautiful smell of seaweed, which takes me back to Pwllheli when I smell it now. Troed Yr Allt
The memories of Troed Yr Allt make me smile. I have family connections with Pwllheli. One of my cousins was a teacher at Troed Yr Allt. She now lives there!

Vacations!
As young parents along with our two daughters we would spend many happy vacations in Pwllheli.  Mostly at Butlins Holiday Camp. So many happy memories, arriving at the camp, hoping we would get Blue Camp as it was closer to the amusements and the tennis courts.  The times we would visit the Pwllheli Market. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
