St Mary's Church, just visible amongst the trees, was rebuilt with a tower after the steeple fell off the original building in 1792. Its corresponding Church Centre has been established comparatively recently in the long building, across the road, beyond the parked Austin A35 motor car. The shops still exist but all have changed their functions.

We moved from Chelmsford to Radcliffe in 1968 - I was 2 years old. I went to Lorne Grove Nursery and my memory of that was the Rocking Horse Toy. I hated sharing it!! I was about 3 or 4 and I remember being so upset at being taken off it I was given a dilute orange and a rich tea biscuit - not a good exchange in my book!! My dad was in the Canadian Air Force (RCAF) stationed in Langar (born in England though) but my family lived at 16 Douglas Close just outside Radcliffe. I remember walking daily to the junior school and buying barley sugar on the way for 3p for a foot long stick that was in one of 300 candy bottles in the store.
