Trees line one side, and telegraph poles the other side of this section of the A2 from Rainham to Gillingham, where Mrs Hall had her hairdresser's shop, E H Chatfield was the confectioner and Len Button the butcher. Zebra crossings gave pedestrians priority over vehicles from 1951, but the little dog on the right has other priorities; the number of pedestrians would seem to present no problems to either the disappearing horse-drawn vehicle or the approaching cyclist.

Early Rainham Memorys
We moved from gravesend 1948 moved in with an aunt in broadview avenue us 3 kids and mum and dad living in one bedroom a bit short of space 3 aunts and a cousin in the other 2 rooms . no television in them days just a radio lots of sing songs and card games ,, rainham woods went on forever nearly into maidstone and the river medway with the landing craft at sharps green from the war , my mum didn't see ...see more

Born There 1946
I was born in Upminster rd sth as it is now, opp the cemetery and Buttons shop. Went to Rainham village school then onto Rainham sec. Where my grandad was groundsman Was married in 1966 in Rainham church, run the brownie pack at the hall off Upminster rd then in parsonage rd school.i came back for a school reunion 225 yrs in 2010. My best man as was still lives there. Would love to chat to anyone of that era, ...see more

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
