Ringwood, Market Place From High Street 1900

More about this scene
On the right hand side of the High Street is the White Hart Inn. It was probably here that the Duke of Monmouth was brought as a prisoner following the crushing of his rebellion in 1685. During his brief stay Monmouth wrote letters to his uncle James II pleading for mercy - but in vain. Monmouth was beheaded soon afterwards in the Tower of London.
