Rode church is at the south-east end of the village, the bulk of which is to the north-west towards the River Frome. This view was taken from the south-west. The A361 Frome to Trowbridge road separates St Laurence's church, with its rugged and battlemented 15th-century west tower, from the rest of the village.

My great aunts Amy And Bet Arnold lived in Ivy house (22 High st) from 1921 to 1965 when they had a bungalow called Mayfair built on the road to St Laurence's church and the main road, . Sadly they died not long after moving there. Ivy house when I visited as a child had no electricity, they still used oil lamps. Marcel & Anne Dutru bought a house in Rode in about 1969. The entire family thought that they were quite mad moving from the centre of London to a wee village that no-one had ever heard of.
