The Market Hall, built of red sandstone, dates from the mid 1600s and stands on the site of an earlier hall. The carving between the windows is of a bust of Charles II. Today the upper floor is used as a Heritage Centre and houses a museum that tells the history of the town.

I remember having spent a few years of my childhood as an evacuee in a place called lea. The address was 4 cross cottages eccels wall lea. My sister also was with me there, it was the most memorable time of my life. The lady we lived with and her Daughter Kitty was very very kind to us.
