Nostalgic memories of Rossett's local history

Share your own memories of Rossett and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I was born there in Aug 1947 and it would appear, like many others, to unwed mums and therefore adopted out. For most of my life I had only an abreviated copy of my birth certificate which came via the orpanage in Liverpool. Given that most of my adopted family were from Liverpool and Lancashire it was always my assumption I was born there. A few years ago my wife tracked down my birth mother in Leicester of all places, ...see more
I was born at this hospital and given the above name. Like other people on here I was adopted, being transferred to Heswall Childrens hospital not long after my birth. A few years ago I received my birth certificate and found my mother had given me her name. She came from Anglesey, and with such a surname it is very difficult to discover any history about her or my circumstances of birth. I visited the ...see more
This is the hospital where I was born in July 1947. My parents were living in Penycae at the time but in 1951 moved to England for my Dad's job. Apart from a brief visit to a relative in Wrexham in 1960, I have never returned to Wales and it is now my ambition to see Trevalyn Manor and Penycae.
I was born in this hospital on the 30/09/1955, my name was Derek Jones. After my birth I was adopted in Nov 1955, I am trying to find my birth mother, I have got her birth certificate but can't find if she married or not. I've been out a lot of money buying certificates but can't find my mother as Jones is a common name in Wales. I found my mother's mum, dad and great-grand parents. My mother's name is Lilian Mary ...see more
I was born at Trevalyn Manor in August 1953. I have returned to The Golly these last few years for short holidays and still love the place. Does anyone know when the place closed as a maternity hospital? A lot of people will remember my brother David (Dai) Williams who is 12 years older than me. He has been asking about old school friends and neighbours, so if anyone can remember him we would love to know.
I attended the Presbyterian Church Rossett Primary School in Station Road before attending the new school near Tom Bishop's shop, where I first bought my first cigarettes, Willy Woodbines, 5 for a shilling. I remember the fish and chips near the butcher, the Butchers Arms. Drink at the Alan Hotel in Station Road. Chandles the grocery and bread in Station Road. Ann the ...see more
