St. Barts

A Memory of Salford.

I was wondering if that family name of Wlloughby includes Herbert who's grandfather had a coalyard just off Tatton St. I remember being at St. Barts. One hot summers day we cooled ourselves with the ice from the fishmonger crates, which felt great at the time, but when we got back into the hot classroom it was obvious where the ice had come from. That was in 1956 in Mr. Williams's - we called him Penguin because he wore the black shoulder cloak. Then we moved Everard house flats to Little Hulton.

the person you have said herbert i married his sister
My husband was a good friend of Herbert when he lived in My Street and we went to his wedding when he married Carol and they bought a house in Lowton. we also went to their son's baptism in Lowton.
It may not be correct to even mention this nowadays but does anybody remember around May ? we would dress up and put makeup a lurban old clothes and go door to door nigger trooping we called it not knowing it was anything but a bit of fun we lived in the flats off Ordsall Lane by the old Globe pub on Regent road, And speaking of Willoughby's coalyard does anybody remember Charlie who made deliveries with a small cart bent over double with his tongue touching the ground !
