The historic core of Charlwood is to the west of the view seen in photograph No 54172, by the medieval parish church
of St Nicholas which was restored by William Burgess in 1858.
Near the college is Hango Hill, the scene in 1663 of the execution of the Manx patriot William Christian (Illian Dohne) for his role in the rebellion of 1651.
