Timothy Whites & Taylors was once a familiar shop selling medicines and household goods on many high streets.
Looking up Broad Street one can see a great variety of inns and hotels. Famous visitors to Lyme have included Daniel Defoe, Mary Mitford, Jane Austen, Alfred Tennyson and Beatrix Potter.
It was a popular street for local shoppers, with a large selection of family retailers, though even as long ago as 1925 shops were catering for tourists with beach goods and souvenirs.
We are looking down the High Street towards Barclays Bank.
Delightfully neat and compact in appearance, the buildings that jostle shoulder to shoulder along the street are deceptively older than they look.
This view takes in the east end of the Market Place and Front Street. On the right is G W Roy's fancy repository and the post office, and just beyond that is the Black Horse pub.
A full pavement was only introduced to this street in 1979.
Looking north-east, this photograph shows a strangely deserted High Street. On the right is the junction with Station Road.
Less than 20 years have passed since No 52472 was taken, but motor vehicles in the High Street and The Square now outnumber horse-drawn ones by nine to one.
On the left of the High Street are the premises of Henfield Post Office and the National Provincial Bank, now defunct.
The photographer is looking along The Jamb from the junction with the High Street, towards Rockingham Road in the distance.
We are now standing in a position to the east of the Cross and are looking towards West Street, with Church Hill on the immediate right of the pantiled lean-to building and the Star Inn
On the right is the Haymarket Theatre facing down Charles II Street, where His Majesty's Theatre stands on the corner; in 1952, with the accession of Elizzabeth II, the theatre became Her Majesty's.
In the earlier one, looking north up High Street, The Greyhound Inn is still an 18th-century colourwashed building, while Burgis' shop on the left corner and the dor- mered cottages beyond are
There was still plenty of on-street parking at this time, before Accrington developed various car parks. It is still striving to keep parking free.
Along the street in the picture was a special bath house, as well as a number of well-appointed new hotels and lodgings.
St John Street is the main entrance to the city from the south. On the left is the Close Wall and St Ann's Gate; on the right is the timber- framed King's Arms, dating from the mid 17th century.
This street is composed of a myriad Victorian architectural styles and sizes. Three- and four-storey buildings jostle for position, selling all kinds of goods and services.
Market Deeping has been fortunate in that it has kept most of its attractive stone buildings, and this street is still much the same today.
This photograph was taken looking up the steep High Street which leads up from the river, with the footpath to nearby Whitby leading off to the right.

This is the town's main street from Telford's bridge, looking towards the mid 18th-century church designed by E & T Woodward.

This scene remains virtually unchanged today, but it has been cut off from the High Street by an ugly ring road.
