Oak Hill Park was Accrington's second park, and the land was purchased bu the Corporation from Reginald Hargreaves for £12,000 in 1892.
Haverthwaite village is in two parts, but they are quite close together.
Kingscote on the far left is dated 1892, while the two gables in the middle distance, with the shop, belong to a U-plan house with a date stone '1688', but much altered.
As the village was destroyed by fire in the 17th century, the village we see today was rebuilt after the fire some distance from the church.
Enlargement of the sign in the photograph shows that 'Burgamot' is spelt with a 'u' rather than an 'e'.
