My late wife Susan Gardiner nee Sebesta used to live in Shalford and I wonder if anybody remembers any of her family ? I think that the family moved to Weybridge around 1970. Many thanks. Paul Gardiner.
When I was going out with my now husband of over fourty eight years, in the early sixties, we used to go to the Parrot pub and we thought it was by the river? We have been back a few times and it is no longer by the river? There is a lot of new office buildings close to the river so we are confused and wondered if anyone else has memories of this. So many memories to choose from. I will try to keep it brief! My dad (Bob/Lofty) and Mum( Diana/Di were rehoused in Tillingbourne Road (1960), when their previous home, on the site of the old Chilworth Gunpowder Factory, was deemed uninhabitable by the Guildford Council. We moved to Shalford's new country estate "Somersbury Drive" as a young family from Eltham in London in 1959. My parents said that when they first saw Shalford there were still cows grazing on the village green. For them it was the remote countryside. I recall a concert in about 1960, in the newish village hall, where I later attended Brownies, at which my mother sang some songs, in a very glamorous evening ...see more
