The battery of six 18-pounders was presented to the town in 1745 by the Duke of Cumberland. Queen's Street is in the middle distance, and the lighthouse to the right. White Lodge with its balconies overlooks the sea (right). On the balcony of Gunhill Place two ladies are taking tea (left), while nearest to us, a lady with a parasol and a young boy sit as far apart as possible.
