More about this scene
Another view along the Welland towards Town Bridge, over which the old Great North Road crossed into Lincolnshire. Built in 1849, it replaced four arches of a medieval one, while to the right is Lord Burghley's Hospital, built in 1597 on the site of an older hospital founded in the 1170s. A Norman culvert and masonry survive from this earlier building. Opposite is the mansard-roofed Anchor Inn.
