More about this scene
How did Stone get its name? One story is that it is derived from a cairn erected over the bodies of the two sons of Wulfhere, a 7th century King of Mercia who slew his sons because they had adopted Christianity and been baptized by St Chad. Then, full of remorse for what he had done, Wulfhere founded a monastery at Stone and adopted Christianity himself.
