Nanny Challinor And Pop , Dogs Trudy And Bono, Taylor’s Caravan Site 1960’s

A Memory of Talacre.

My Nan and Pop actually lived in a caravan on Mr and Mrs Taylor’s site early 60’s to the early 70’s. I recall my brother and I, visiting during the summer holidays and playing with Mr Taylor’s son, who at that time would have been around 14. My brother would have been 11, I was 9.
We used to take it in turns to drive , yes drive, Mr Taylor’s big green jeep around the site. I was only allowed to drive around the toilet block by the office!
Does anyone remember the 2 x black and white wooden houses just before you entered Taylor’s site. I think the smaller ramshackle cottage was called mini Moria. One year we actually stayed there with a number of relatives, cousins, aunts and an old guy called Uncle Charlie, who I believe was either Canadian or American. Gas lights and toasting our bread around a small stove / chiminea, sleeping on mattresses on the floor, great times. Next day flying our kites on the beach. My fondest memory though was playing with my nans dogs in the sand dunes.
This is a long shot but there was a family from Liverpool, who used to holiday at Taylor’s the same time as we did. I used to play with Steve, who was my age, my brother played with, Steve’s brother who was his age.
There are many a story to tell, if anyone can recall the brothers. Furthermore can anyone recall Mr and Mrs Taylor’s sons name. I think it was Robert.

He There. Richard Taylor was your friends name and he is still around if you go to visit. Richard was a good friend of mine at the time you are talking about. Talacre was a happy place in those days. I hope this helps.

Hello,
I am from Liverpool and we as a family went to stay at Mr Taylor's site (where next door you could hire a bike for a few pennies!). My mother and father took us there a couple of years (approx. 1969 to 71), I was 9 in 1969 and my brother Steven is 12 months younger, so it could easily been us! I cannot honestly say that I actually remember playing with any specific as it is so long ago but it would be nice to think that we played together then!
My personal memories consist of my grandad's bungalow on the Warren (not for from the water standpipe and the original bakery!) I think the owner of the bakery was named June Tynen (?). The custard Tarts and meat pies were to die for, and the smell from the bakery lives in my memory to this day!!
We used to go the 'dukie' where to could get a milk shake and play on the ball bearing slot machines, whilst listening to the sounds on the duke box. There used to be a lovely fish and chips shop along the path from the 'Dukie' too!
Such happy memories, we didn't have much but HOW we enjoyed our holidays in 'good ol' Talacre'!!!
Hi John
If it is you and Ste, you should recall when the 4 of us went to Rhyl on the train but we didn’t have return tickets. It was either that or we were fare dodgers 🤣. Anyway you , if it was you and Graham the sensible ones, decided to walk back to the site along the road hitchhiking, whereas Ste and I decided to follow the beach😱😱😱. I think you and Graham either got a lift back or a relative on a scouting mission picked you up. Hours later Ste and I got back, I can’t remember how but I do know the coast guards rescue helicopter was scrambled and the police were involved. I never sat down for a week🤣. Ironically, I went on to became a 30 year career Police Officer.
Hello again,
Thank you for your reply, and it looks like to had a great adventure back then, but unfortunately I have to say that I would have certainly remembered such an escapade! I sincerely HOPE you manage to get in contact with Steve and his brother, as I am sure it would be nice to re-call such happy and care free times between you guy's!!
