More about this scene
The beautiful River Avon penetrates to the very heart of England at Shakespeare's Stratford. Since the early 1700s the Avon has been divided into two halves at Evesham – the Upper and Lower – which are owned and managed separately. An example of the improvement work carried out on the Lower section of the waterway below Evesham is plain to see in this photograph of Mythe Bridge, between Tewkesbury and Twyning. A rough load of timber has been stacked on the banks awaiting collection.
