Dawlish Road

A Memory of Tottenham.

Hi, I'm Les Bouchier I was born at 83 Durham Road Tottenham now called (Kitchener Rd) I was the last of the family, 4 girls and 2 boys born to Minnie and James Bouchier. In the early 1950s our family moved to Dawlish road due to overcrowding in our previous house! I went to Down lane infants school and attended the same junior school followed by Parkhurst secondary modern school. Then after various jobs worked on the railway as a fireman on steam trains based at Stratford depot where my workmates included Christopher Hughes Mastermind champion and TV celebrity I was later transfered to Hornsey depot for a few years, next came a new career in engineering! My social life consisted of watching Spurs play on Saturday and going to the Tottenham Royal, the Eagle pub, the Royal Standard Blackhorse Road and the Cross Keys on Edmonton Green plus anywhere that had music and Girls!! I had many motorbikes over the years and even became a Mod for a short time! Many happy memories of Tottenham during those wonderful times!!!

Hi i know this is a long shot but my dad was born at Tottenham and his dad worked for the council as s a builder. His name was Maurice Redman. My dads name was Gordon. Trying to find out what school he would have gone to. He was born 1912.
Hi Victoria The first thing to remember is in the times we're talking about, private cars were few and far between in Tottenham. The mothers mostly gave birth to their children at home and when the child was old enough he/she went to local schools which were normally situated fairly close to their home address. I don,t know what information you have about your dad, but if you have the road or street he spent he childhood that could give a clue. The schools I remember were Belmont School, Parkhurst, Page. Green. Down Lane. Coleraine, Downhills, Earlsmead and a few more including a Catholic school St Ignatius. Hope this helps I've got all early maps of the area so if I can help let me know! Kind Regards.
